Course Curriculum

Many new employees enter the manufacturing workplace without basic interpersonal, computer and process improvement skills. Because their skills are limited, they become frustrated and often leave a new job during the first ninety days of employment.

The following program is designed to provide new employees with the skills and tools they need to be successful on the job. The sixty hour program is comprised of soft skills training, computer training and Lean Manufacturing courses.

Tools for Success

This 32-hour NCCER course contains 12 modules that include basic communication skills and basic employability skills. These modules teach self-presentation, conflict resolution, problem-solving and communication techniques. Topics include first impressions, starting your new job, building a strong relationship with your supervisor, teamwork, diversity in the workplace, communication skills, managing stress on the job, thinking critically and problem solving, resolving conflict, giving and receiving criticism, sexual harassment, and drug and alcohol abuse on the job.

Introduction to the PC

This 16-hour introduction to the computer defines hardware and software and demonstrates a variety of applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, and graphics. 

Lean Manufacturing

This12-hour course introduces participants to the fundamentals of lean manufacturing.  Course includes a short video and several student exercises.  Topics covered include:
